All about four-square (And some other things!)

A little about me

Hi everyone at home! I’m Jennica and I go to Marshall Elm. At recess, me and some of my friends like to play a game called, you guessed it, foursquare! Foursquare is a fun game that most of my class likes to play.

How did foursquare start?

Foursquare started March 11, 2009. It first was called Boxball. It was played in WW I and II. It slowly got the name we use today, foursquare! The ball originally was a tennis ball! But as the time went by, it got bigger, and became the ball we use today, a foursquare ball. It was founded: March 11, 2009 in NY City, NY. The founders were: Dennis Crowley, and Naveen Selvandurai. The headquarters is: NY City, NY. It’s played ALL over the world.

How to play foursquare

You set up four squares. They are four foot-by-four foot or bigger. You make one person Server. (They go to fourth square.) When someone gets out, you either stay in your square, or move counter-clockwise. When you get out, you be fair and go to the end of the line. If there aren’t a lot of people, you normally get back in the game quick. The second person in line is judge. Sometimes people don’t like the calls that the judge say, but you gotta go with it. If the judge doesn’t know the call, or wasn’t paying attention, they normally call redo, and everyone who was in gets to play again.

How you get out

If you’re in and the judge calls you out, then you go to the back of the line. How you get out is: 1. You hit one of the lines. 2. You hit outside of the squares. 3. If you’re server and you hit the ball to hard it’s called unfair serve. 4. If you catch it you’re out. 5. If you hit it outside of the squares you’re out. 6. If you hit overhand, you’re out. 7. (Last one.) If you hit wrong, and the server didn’t call that, you’re out.

Plays the server can call.

Cherry bomb is when someone hits the ball to you and you say cherry bomb! And you grab the ball, put in the air as far as you can, and throw it to someone else’s square. 2. Back stop is were you can hit the ball twice and then hit the ball to someone else’s square. 3. Over hand is were instead of hitting the ball with the back of you’re hand, you still hit it with the back f you’re hand, but you can hit the ball at the top, not the bottom. 4. Mini games is were the server can call things like “Bus stop! and everyone has to run to the middle. If you’re the last one to the middle, you get out. If the server calls “Line tag! You have to run around on the lines of the squares and the server runs around with the ball and tries to tag you. If you get tagged, you’re out.

All about why floods and droughts are harmful to the world

Floods: Floods are when you have pretty much no rain and then you get lots and lots of rain. They are also harmful to the world because the flood water is mostly gross, dirty water, so it caries lots of germs and diseases. Floods are harmful because they can do very distasteful thing like wipe out crops and plants in less than five minutes. It also does dangerous things like kill people because the flood can go so high it can suck up a smart car! That’s dangerous. So it can kill people because it can go really high and you sink and no one can find you for a while. People sometimes in floods get stuck and have to use things like Canoes to get out. When there’s a flood most of the the people have to send people like search and rescue and coast guards to help find people, and help people get out of the flood.

Droughts: A drought is when you have a lot of water and it dries up for a long time. They are also harmful to the world because living things like flowers and plants depend on the water and when there’s a drought it can kill living things. Vegetables will lose their food without the water and people can starve depending on how long the drought is. Droughts can also kill crops because they depend on the water also, and without water they can die and won’t harvest their crop and then farmers will have a bad harvest season. Droughts are also harmful because there is a low level of rainfall and that is bad for the environment.

And that’s why floods and droughts are bad for the environment.

In Front Desk my theme is kindness.

In the story Mia is kind to Jason when he is bullied by some boys. They even called him “Chinese dough boy!” That is not nice. Mia is showing kindness because Jason is rude and Mia stuck up for him. Also Mia gave her friend Lupe a note that said Lupe could enter the essay contest. This shows kindness because Mia is giving Lupe a chance. But Lupe read the note and just smiled and said “I won’t enter the contest, but I’ll help you with your grammar.” The last thing is Mia is trying to stick up for her parents by picking up the receiver and saying stuff like “That isn’t fair!” She said that type of stuff when her parents and Mr. Yao were talking about the contract.
